Day 1: Ford City to Oak Ridge (56 miles)

Our ride will start on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Armstrong Trail Head in Ford City, PA. We will meet in the parking lot, conduct a bike and gear check, and then head out on the trail. We’ll ride along the Armstrong Trail for 28 miles to East Brady. Just before reaching East Brady, we’ll pass the Brady Tunnel. Built in 1916 it is currently being refurbished to become a part of the Armstrong Trail - and eventually part of the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail. We will grab lunch in East Brady and then head back on the Armstrong Trail to the Redbank Trail.

The Redbank Trail follows the Redbank Creek, which meanders through mostly forested and rural areas, passing through small communities and two impressive tunnels. The first tunnel we will hit is the Long Point Tunnel (640 ft) and then the Climax Tunnel (518 ft). Both tunnels were built in 1870’s and were crucial to the delivery of passengers and coal in the area. Once past the Climax Tunnel, we will travel 6 miles to our destination.

The trail does rise about 700 feet from East Brady to Oak Ridge. The 1% slope is gradual but the ride is a slow climb most of the day. There are benches, shelters and a few porta johns along the way but we recommend bringing plenty of water and a few snacks. Once in Oak Ridge, we jump off the Red Bank Trail and ride about ½ a mile to our overnight location. Dinner options are available in New Bethlem.

Day 2: Oak Ridge to Ford City (46 miles, Breakfast and Lunch included)

After freshly brewed coffee and home-baked muffins or bread, we’ll have breakfast that begins with juice, seasonal fruit and the special entree of the day. Then we will head back to Ford City. We will stop in New Bethlehem to pick up lunch, which we will enjoy further down the trail. As we climbed the day before, the ride today is a steady descent to the Armstrong Trail and then a flat ride back to Ford City. ENJOY THE RIDE!
