Day 0 (7/19): Meet in Buffalo

On Friday, July 19, 2024, we will meet in Buffalo, NY at the Best Western (Delaware Ave). We will conduct a ride orientation meeting at 6:00 pm and then head to dinner. In the orientation meeting, we will provide an overview of the ride routes, lunch stop, breaks, overnight locations and safety tips for riding on the trails, road and in a group. If you do arrive in Buffalo early, there are plenty of attractions to explore that are close by the hotel, such as Shea’s Performing Arts, Peace Bridge to Canada, West Village Historic District or Buffalo’s waterfront. Just to note, after we leave our hotel in Buffalo, we will be leaving our cars in public parking.

Day 1 (7/20): Buffalo City Tour (15-20 miles, Breakfast, Wing Lunch included)

After breakfast at the hotel, we will ride over and meet up with our partners at Buffalo Bike Tours. They will be providing us with a history and architecture tour of Buffalo. This downtown tour stops at many of the city’s well-known buildings like Buffalo City Hall, the Electric Tower and the Guaranty Building. We will learn about the city’s economic booms and trailblazing community activists who were instrumental in the city’s founding.

Day 2 (7/21): Niagara Falls & Niagara State Park Tour (35 miles, Breakfast included)

Today, we will say goodbye to Buffalo and head to Niagara Falls (23 miles). When leaving Buffalo, we will take backstreets and hop on the Shoreline Trail. It is a 23-mile paved trail that is a combination of both on and off-road. The trail pathway is mostly flat and runs adjacent to Lake Erie and along the Niagara River as we head into Niagara Falls. On the way, there are numerous trailside parks with beautiful water scenery that are perfect for stopping for a snack or photo op.

We will pick up lunch in Niagara Falls, and after lunch head into Niagara Falls State Park, which is one of the oldest state parks in the nation. We’ll explore Goat Island, which is set in the middle of the Niagara River between the American and Canadian Falls. The natural scenery on Goat Island is beautiful. There will be a chance for some souvenir shopping and then we will head across the Rainbow Bridge into Canada. Our overnight will be at a Chestnut Inn Bed and Breakfast in Niagara Falls, ON. Options are available for dinner nearby.

Day 3 (7/22): Niagara Falls, Niagara-On-The-Lake to Welland, ON (40 miles, Breakfast & Dinner included)

Breakfast will be provided at our bed & breakfast. Then we’ll ride along the northern half of the Niagara River Recreational Trail to Niagara-On-The-Lake. The paved trail takes us through scenic parks and the Niagara wine country, which is home to over 70 award-winning wineries. Lunch will be on your own in Niagara-On-The-Lake (17 miles). This quaint town is a well-preserved 19th-century village with elegant Victorian architecture. Niagara-On-The-Lake has several food options including sandwich shops, bakeries and ICE CREAM!!

After lunch, we will head south to Welland, ON (23 miles). During this section, we will be on the road and the Welland Canal Trail, which will take us into Welland, ON. The Welland Canal is an important waterway that connects Lake Ontario (Port Weller) to Lake Erie (Port Colbourne). Cycling along the Welland Canal, you will see massive ships as they glide past the grassy banks on their way to one of the Great Lakes.

Welland, ON is known for scenic cycling paths and historic city murals that depict Welland’s industry and marine story. Additionally, a World War I memorial provides insight into the city's place during the war.

Day 4 (7/23): Welland, ON back to Buffalo, NY (30 miles, Breakfast included)

Today, we will head south out of Welland on the Welland Canal Trail toward Port Colborne, ON (9 miles). From there, we will connect to the Friendship Trail. This is a paved, flat 15-mile pathway that traverses from Port Colborne to Fort Erie. The trail passes through farmland, villages, and quiet residential areas.

We will stop for lunch in Ridgeway, ON (18 miles). After lunch, we will continue on the Friendship Trail to Buffalo. As we approach Buffalo, there are stunning views of the Buffalo skyline, which are perfect for photo ops.
